Core preview validation

Build and test a KUOS Linux preview safely in an isolated VM.

Technical guides are currently in English.

KUOS Linux is a NixOS-based distribution. The core preview includes the KUOS CLI, identity, boot artwork, wallpaper and system prompt. Production services are validated separately. A verified public one-line installer is not available yet.

Build the preview

From a reviewed KUOS source checkout on an x86_64 Linux host with Nix and Cargo:

cd kuos_nixos
bash kuos_nix/publication-test.sh --dry-run
bash kuos_nix/publication-test.sh --build

The script runs Cargo validation, evaluates locked Nix inputs, boots an isolated QEMU VM, and builds a live ISO and source archive with SHA256SUMS. Results appear under .release/. No root access is needed for this validation. Nix downloads require connectivity unless all dependencies are already cached.

Verify artifacts

Verify artifacts with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS in the output directory. Boot the ISO in a disposable VM before attempting an installation on a spare disk. The preview is a minimal console environment; the desktop is not bundled.

Read the diagnostics

kuos doctor reports full-stack services absent from the preview. Read its findings; its current exit code does not indicate whether those services passed.

Production boundaries

Do not run the legacy bootstrap on an existing production host. Production activation and public publication require policy approval after the distribution gates in kuos_ops/distribution-release.md pass.
